Why we publish

Useful ideas should make difficult problems easier to understand.

SebGenesis builds software around problems of visibility, traceability, automation and operational understanding. Insights is where we examine those problems more closely.

We will share practical thinking from the engineering and product decisions behind our software, explain concepts that are often hidden behind technical terminology and explore how organisations can design better operational systems.

The objective is not to publish for volume. It is to create material worth reading when the subject matters to your work.

What we explore

Four areas of practical focus.

Our writing will develop alongside the products we build and the operational problems we investigate.

01

Operational clarity

How software can make complex operations easier to observe, understand and manage—and why having more data does not necessarily mean having greater visibility.

VisibilityTraceabilityMeasurement
02

Auditability & evidence

Practical thinking about audit trails, tamper-evident records, investigation, integrity verification and turning application activity into usable audit evidence.

03

Cloud engineering

Engineering decisions behind secure, tenant-aware and observable cloud applications, with an emphasis on systems that need to remain dependable as they grow.

04

Building software products

Lessons from turning operational problems into focused software products: defining boundaries, making engineering trade-offs and building for sustainable ownership.

Our approach

Practical over promotional.

SebGenesis Insights is intended to explain how things work, examine engineering and operational trade-offs and make complex subjects more useful to the people responsible for software and operations.

01

Explain the problem first

Technology makes more sense when the operational problem it is solving is clear.

02

Show the reasoning

Good engineering involves trade-offs. We want to explain why decisions are made, not simply present the result.

03

Use concrete examples

Where appropriate, we will use patterns and lessons from products such as Medical Audit to make technical concepts tangible.

04

Publish when there is something useful to say

Quality and relevance matter more than maintaining an arbitrary publishing frequency.

A current focus

Auditability is more than keeping logs.

Application logs are invaluable for operating software, but auditability asks a different set of questions.

Can important activity be reconstructed? Can authorised users find the events that matter? Can historical changes be detected? Can the integrity of an audit record be checked? Can useful evidence be produced when it is needed?

These questions are central to Medical Audit and will form an important part of the material published here.

Explore Medical Audit
01Capture

Record important application activity.

02Protect

Make historical modification detectable.

03Investigate

Find and understand the events that matter.

04Verify

Check the integrity of protected records.

05Prove

Turn audit history into usable evidence.

As Insights grows

A library built from real work.

As SebGenesis publishes, this page will become a growing library of technical articles, product perspectives and practical guides.

Future material will be added when it can contribute something substantive, including deeper explanations of auditability, cloud architecture and the engineering decisions behind SebGenesis products.

Medical Audit

See the thinking applied to a real product.

Medical Audit turns auditability principles into managed infrastructure for healthcare software vendors.
